Bantayan Island - Where to stay and transportation

Getting to Bantayan Island will be a bit of a journey, but many folks think the destination is well worth it.
Here's step by step instructions of how to get there, the costs along the way, and where to stay. (Photo taken from here.

HOW TO GET THERE:

Wowbantayan website has really great instructions on how to get to Bantayan Island complete with tips on what to avoid, what to look out for, etc. For a quick look at how to get there, read on.

Option 1
1. Take a cab to Hagnaya port. This will be a 2.5 hour ride that will cost at least P2000-2500 depending on our negotiating skills.

2. Once at the Hagnaya port, take the ferry to Sta. Fe. Read #3 of Option 2 for details.

Option 2
1. Take a (metered) cab to North Bus Terminal near SM Mall.

2. From the terminal you can either take a bus or a van going to Hagnaya port. On the surface, it may seem that the van would be faster and more comfortable. However, many, many accounts state that they fill up the vans like sardines and that it's a very uncomfortable, sweaty 3 hour ride. So I'd go with the bus. There aren't that many air conditioned buses that leave for Hagnaya. If we're lucky to catch one, it should be P150 ($3.75) one way. Otherwise, we'll probably end up taking a non-air-conditioned bus (P80 = $2), which is supposedly not bad because the windows will be open. Just be aware that you'll probably have to wipe away dust from your face an inch thick when you reach the port. (3.5 - 4 hours)

3. The ferry from Hagnaya port to Sta. Fe runs every day from early morning with the last ferry at 5:30pm so it's recommended to leave Cebu City at 1pm the latest.
